When you go to a foreign country you must visit its markets, a real place where you can easily discover what people eat, how they cook and what they talk about in their daily lives. Come with us to La Boqueria and Santa Caterina and you will find out more flavours and colours than you could imagine!

Our visit lasts for one hour approximately.

TAPAS WORKSHOP

Tapas are widely known as one of the most famous dishes in Spain. Not only are they delicious but they also enable a casual and friendly way of eating.
However, did you know that its origin dates from the 13th century? The king Alfonso X the Wise was ill and he could not eat big meals, just some snacks with sips of wine. Once he was recovered, he wanted all bars and taverns to serve wine with small portions of food.

Apart from some historical details, in our workshop you will learn how to cook and display a great variety of tapas. Afterwards, you will taste them and enjoy a great meal in a cozy atmosphere.

You can choose 4 hot appetizers and 3 cold appetizers, depending on the season.

This workshop includes: tasting-class in English or French, chef, material and notes in English or French, room rental, wine and water.

It lasts for two and a half hours, approximately.

TAPAS WORKSHOP AND WINES TASTING  

Serving a good meal does not only depend on the recipes you cook or the way you place your fantastic set of silver cutlery. If you want to organize a complete gastronomic experience, you should be aware of the wine, which has a very important role in all kind of meals! The perfect drink is the one that could marry your dishes, so that they become the “perfect couple”.

In this workshop we mix culinary tips with a useful introduction to wines tasting.

Program:

  • Tapas: its origin and history.
  • Tapas cooking.
  • Tapas serving and tasting.
  • Introduction to Catalan wines.
  • Wine varieties and Protected Designation of Origin wines.
  • Sensorial test, descriptive and organoleptic features.
  • Visual, taste and aromatic defects.
  • Organoleptic features in red wines and sparkling wines.

We will cook and taste 4 hot appetizers and 3 cold appetizers, depending on the season.

Wines: Cava (Catalan champagne), red wine and white wine.

This workshop includes: tasting-class in English or French, chef, sommelier, material and notes in English or French, room rental, 3 wines, 1 cava and water.

It lasts for two and a half hours, approximately.

WORKSHOP: CURED HAM

Choosing and cutting a cured ham is not as easy as it may seem, but do not worry. In this workshop you will be taught by Santiago Rams, a member of the Official Ham Cutters Association and endorsed by a 25 years’ experience.

Program:
•    Iberian cured ham and its four controlled Designations of Origin. White pig and its two Designations (Teruel and Trevélez).
•    Differences between acorn-fed Iberian ham, recebo cured ham and cebo cured ham. How can we distinguish Iberian cured jam from white ham?
•    How to choose any cured ham or shoulder, depending on the family and the meal.
•    Pig breeds: Iberian, Duroc, Jensen and Jersey.
•    Cooking utensils to prepare and clean ham. How to keep it, to make sure it does not go bad?
•    How to cut and serve ham.
•    Ham with tomato bread tasting.

This workshop includes: tasting-class in English or French, professional ham cutter, material and notes in English or French.
It lasts for two hours, approximately.

WORKSHOP: CATALAN AND SPANISH WINES TASTING

Since the Roman Empire, Catalonia has been producing a great variety of wines and nowadays they are world renowned thanks to its 12 Designations of Origin. In this workshop you will discover our more emblematic bouquets.

Program: 

  • Production areas.
  • Varieties and wines included in protected DO.
  • Crop, weather and ground.
  • Sensorial test, descriptive and organoleptic features.
  • Bouquets before and during fermentation.
  • Visual, taste and aromatic defects.

 

This workshop includes: tasting-class in English or French, sommelier, material and notes in English or French, 3 wines, 1 cava and water.

It lasts for one and a half hour, approximately.

FOOD AND WINE PAIRING

Cooking workshop, wines tasting and lunch/supper

If you want to enjoy a complete gastronomic experience, this is your workshop! Firstly, there is a practical class where you can test yourself and try to cook traditional but also some modern dishes. Then, a professional sommelier will introduce you to the art of tasting wine, so you can appreciate the bouquet of a great variety of drinks.

All together we will prepare four recipes (appetizer, starter, main dish and desserts), while we discover the origin of each one and how to cook them at home. During the lunch or supper, where you will eat your own creations!, there will be interesting explanations about the wines we taste (Why is it so important to choose the proper one? How do we have to drink it?). And all that in a cozy and relaxed atmosphere!

This activity includes: chef, sommelier, recipes and notes in English or French, cooking utensils and products, complete menu (1 appetizer, 1 starter, 1 main dish and desserts), 4 kinds of wine, water and coffee.

It lasts for 3 hours, approximately.

COOKING WORKSHOP

Although it may seem impossible, you can discover the whole country by just sitting at the table… tasting its more emblematic dishes! If you want to learn about Catalan and Spanish culture, come with us and try to prepare our typical recipes. After cooking, you will enjoy a delicious meal!

As the writer Josep Pla pointed out, there is a complex connection between the landscape and the gastronomy of each region. Thanks to its situation and the weather, Catalonia offers a great variety of seasonal products which have been used from medieval times until nowadays. 

All together we will prepare 4 recipes, depending on the season. Not only will you discover how to cook them, but also its origin and history. Finally, you will taste everything you have prepared so you can check your own abilities!
